About Spain license

Spain joint deposit limits put one ceiling on everything a player deposits across all licensed gambling sites. Royal Decree 520/2026 sets the default at €700 a day, €1,750 a week and €3,300 per four weeks. The system comes into force on 25 March 2027. Until now each operator set its own limits, so a player with several accounts could deposit several times the cap. Under the new rule an operator must refuse a deposit that would take the player over the shared limit. The decree also requires the DGOJ, the Spanish regulator, to give operators a test version six months before launch.

What the royal decree changes

The decree adds article 36 bis to Royal Decree 1614/2011, the Spanish rules on gambling licences. It creates a system of joint deposit limits per player, run by the DGOJ itself. Operators connect their own limit systems to it and check it before they accept a deposit. The existing per operator limits under article 36 stay in place, and the joint system works on top of them.

The preamble gives the reason. About a third of active online players in Spain gamble with more than one operator. Around eighty percent of cumulative losses fall on ten percent of players. With limits set operator by operator, the amount a player could deposit grew with every new account.

The three limits and how they are counted

PeriodDefault joint limitHow the period is counted
Day€70006:00 to 06:00 the next day
Week€1,75006:00 on Tuesday to 06:00 on the following Tuesday
Four weeks€3,30006:00 on the Tuesday of week one to 06:00 on the Tuesday of week four

The DGOJ may change these amounts by resolution after technical and legal reports. The first one week and four week periods start on the first Tuesday after the system comes into force.

How a player can change the joint limit

  • A lower limit is recorded at once.
  • A higher limit or the removal of the limit takes effect three working days after the request.
  • Before a raise or removal applies, the DGOJ gives the player information on the risks of gambling.
  • After raising a limit, a player must wait three months before asking for another raise or for removal.
  • All changes go through the DGOJ system itself, through the function it provides for this purpose.

Timeline from decree to launch

  1. 23 June 2026. The Council of Ministers approves the decree.
  2. 25 June 2026. The decree is published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado as BOE-A-2026-13762.
  3. Six months before launch. The DGOJ must give operators a test version of the system. Operators and the regulator then prepare it and inform registered players.
  4. 25 March 2027. The joint deposit limit system comes into force.

Which sites the joint limit covers

The joint limit covers every operator licensed by the DGOJ. The DGOJ list read on 18 October 2026 shows 77 licensed operators. An offshore site without a Spanish licence sits outside the system, so its deposits are neither counted nor limited. The Spain license check page lists the licensed operators with their web addresses. To check one brand, type it into the search box on our homepage, then confirm the result in the DGOJ register.

Frequently asked questions

What are the Spain joint deposit limits?

Royal Decree 520/2026 sets default limits of €700 per day, €1,750 per week and €3,300 per period of four weeks. They apply to the total of a player's deposits across every account with every operator licensed by the DGOJ, the Spanish regulator. A day runs from 06:00 to 06:00 and a week from 06:00 on Tuesday to 06:00 on the following Tuesday.

When do the joint deposit limits start in Spain?

The system comes into force on 25 March 2027, nine months after the decree was published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado on 25 June 2026. The decree requires the DGOJ to give operators a test version of the system six months before that date.

Can a player change or remove the joint limit?

Yes. A lower limit takes effect at once. A higher limit or the removal of the limit takes effect three working days after the request, and the DGOJ shows information on gambling risks before the change applies. A player who raised a limit cannot ask for another raise or for removal until three months have passed.

Do operator deposit limits still apply?

Yes. The joint system works alongside the limits each operator already sets under article 36 of Royal Decree 1614/2011. An operator must refuse any deposit that would take a player over the joint limit and tell the player why.
